MAP researcher Prof. Dr. Gabriele Multhoff has been honored by the cancer research expert network CESAR (Central European Society for Anticancer Drug Research - EWIV) for her outstanding work in the field of "translational oncology research". The €6000 CESAR Prize is awarded every two years for outstanding work in the field of translational research - the interface between preclinical research and clinical development - into antitumor agents.
The research focus of Prof. Multhoff (TUM) represents the development of innovative cellular, molecular and antibody mediated immunotherapy. Prof. Multhoff and colleagues succeeded in developing new antibodies against the stress protein Hsp70. The new antibodies enable the immune system to recognize tumor cells and destroy them through an antibody mediated immune defense.
