Imaging early stages of life – October 2018

This picture shows a zebrafish embryo 48 hours after fertilization. At this developmental stage, the embryo is only about 2 mm long and 350 μm thick. The 3-D model is derived from X-ray CT scans collected with a nanoCT instrument developed by Prof. Franz Pfeiffer (Chair of Applied Biophysics, Technical University of Munich) and his colleagues, which can attain a resolution of 100 nm.
